My parents probably dated there, as that was the nearest nightlife to Harold Wood at the time.

Don't think I want to advertise it too widely, though

for years i went in the palais, stopouts, room at the top, havelocks and the boozer/club that had a brilliant covers rock band on a fri/sat night. can't remember the name of it?

hammer205, the live band always performed in the nightclub part of the place

yes, havelocks used to get very naughty. stopped going in there when stabbings and glassings became a regular occurence

Joe have you seen the tiny print under 'where my story begins'?

It says 'if you don't count the many years my family spent sifting through rubbish tips in Bangladesh'.

Every time I drive past the block of flats that replaced the Ilford Palais, I get a bit emotional. Some right sluts I met there.

All I know is I haven't been there for a night out for a Kong time
crying shame the night spits no longer exist. We all know why Of course but no point starting that!
TM thought you were referring to another place so Angel pub or Shannon
didn't like palais myself as there was always a punch up!

Re: Ilford . for anyone born there went out there or met their other half there
i think it was the rat and carrott. yes, just down the road from the station. never any trouble in there, always seemed an older crowd in there who enjoyed the band

Re: Ilford . for anyone born there went out there or met their other half there
If you aren't in by 9-30 you had no chance of admission

Or was it the rat and Parrott ?

It ended up as a Lloyds no 1 and then it became a black club and then the guns turned up

that's the one. the bird who took it over when it first became a Lloyds ran my local wetherspoons in goodmayes. she left in the end as it was out control most weeks with cunts fighting and smashing up the place. when it was the club when I went there I don't think I ever saw a fight

Wasn't born there but spent a great deal of my upbringing there, love the place.

Re: Ilford . for anyone born there went out there or met their other half there
the wetherspoons she ran in goodmayes was the standard bearer. that was a decent boozer despite a couple of mobs of fuckwits that tried to cause agg. they eventually got sorted out though

Grew up there.

Loved the shannon, palais, barons, papermakers.

Even the old angel, and the General Havelock, Lord Napier, Prince of Wales Cauliflower and Joker,

Papermakers, Red Cow and the other boozer down ley st had many visits from me and mine.

Still a great place but not the same
